El nido - You had me at hello!!

Probably noticeable from my posts that I love going to different places. I have been blessed with opportunities from work and from people around me. Recently, I had the chance to finally visit one of the well known places here in the Philippines - El nido, Palawan.

Based on recommendations from friends, we chose Pangulasian Island Resort. The price of the package is a little intimidating at first but after the trip, it was worth it. Here is my review:

One of the best places I have been to. The experience, the people, the amenities, the beach - AMAZING.

Location: Have to travel 55 mins from Naia (Manila) airport, then another 25-35 mins to the island via boat. When you check in your baggage, the next time you'll have it is in your villa, because even in the el nido airport, someone from the hotel will assist you and carry your things for you.

The Villa: Always clean. We went to join an activity in the morning, and we saw our room made up when we arrived lunch time. We thought that's already the housekeeping for the day. But after we had our dinner, we arrived with our room made up again and with fruits, desserts, a Bucket full of ice.

Staff: Always ready to help and would welcome us with cold face towel as soon as we arrive from any activity. The're polite and always mindful of our needs. Even during the Island hoping, we were served with iced tea in a glass (not a disposable cup) and island-baked cookies. Perfect when we were literally enjoying too much sun :)

The staff did a jumpshot for us on our way home.

Beach: We saw a turtle while snorkelling just 10 meters from the beach front. It's really amazing that they got the beach and a few meters, you may go see hundreds of different water creatures.

Nature: They take care of the environment. There would be staff cleaning the beach shore (though for me it's already clean). Shampoo, lotion, conditioner, soap that won't harm the environment are provided. They also give water canisters so that the quest won't accumulate disposable water bottles. The best part is it's free to take home - instant souvenir. :)

Food: The breakfast is just ok. I think that they are into healthier options with the normal Filipino dishes such as longanisa, tapa, tocino grilled and not fried. This may appeal to some but not to those looking for classic Filipino dishes. Others choices would be congee, oatmeal, variety of bread and cheese, salad, fruits, etc.

Our lunch and dinner were great though. We had in the main dinning hall and pool area. We had salmon, Chicken inasal, pork ribs and all very good.

Activites: They have different activities available to all the guests for free (already included in the room rate)  - assisted sunrise or sunset trekking, whale shark watching, island hoping and other water activities (use of snorkling gears, paddle boats, kayak, sail boats). For those who wish to stay indoors, they have a library and a game room. Pretty cool, right?

Room Tip: Best location: Beach villa 1-5, this is near the main hall, and has the best beach area.

There is a reason why most of the people we met there weren't first timers. I think we'll follow their lead since we are already looking forward to going back.
